Pikourous in Ireland (2011)

1

Preamble

Our 2011 voyage will be more modest than the one that took us to Sweden and Norway in 2009 and 2010: our blog will therefore be simpler this year and will be aimed primarily at our family and friends, with the objective of giving them news of us!

2011 Review

Departure on May 21st from Port-la-Forêt, with the voyage ending on August 4th in Caherciveen, including a one-week break in Trébeurden for a survival course. Sailing to Pontrieux to participate in the gathering of boats similar to PikouRous; crossing to Plymouth, then sailing west along Cornwall, then crossing between Newlyn Harbour and Kinsale, sailing to Clare Island (north of Connemara), and finally returning to Caherciveen. A total of 1327 nautical miles and 95 engine hours. No breakdowns, and even the navigation system functioned relatively well. The only incident that could have turned out badly: a sheet slipped under the port forward hatch and lifted it, causing a small leak. The weather was too often poor, with rough seas off Ireland and a crew that was frequently seasick… The dinghy and lifebuoy were lost and then found. The only real losses were a hat, a rain jacket and a poncho…things that are still quite useful in Ireland.

Conclusion: Ireland is superb, but this year particularly wet!
